I'm sure there are exceptions... I think you can tell more from a person's facial expressions in one minute, than you can from a hundred well written e-mails.

Now, meeting someone online who lives nearby and starting a relationship with that person and later falling in love. That's fine. But I had a friend who "dated" a kid online for almost 4 years. They did eventually meet, but they had a lot of problems because where do you draw the line with online dating? I don't know. If its strickly online, its for people who don't have a life and really don't want one. If its one that develops into a REAL, personal relationship. That's a different story. But even yet, I'd caution meeting someone in real life that you've met online. Its still too dangerous.

hi all...it's my first time to post. i'm just really curious. i've never tried online dating before, but after i broke up with my ex, i figured i just wanna try it for fun and not be serious with it. so some indian guy sends me a message over at myspace and initially, i didn't like his english but he was very pleasant and nice so i decided i wanna be friends with him.
we chat daily and realized we like each other...
i feel like im starting to fall for him and because this is just online, i can't help but have hesitations at the back of my mind if this is gonna work or not or if he is making up stories or not...but i think he is not... can you guys help me how to verify things, or at least give me tips on how to make "us" work? by the way, he is half indian-half british.
i wanna know in particular what challenges i should expect with our situation....give me precations...

Many people have webpages that describe themselves, etc.
You have more opportunities to fine tune what you are looking for with the internet. And you don't even have to put on make-up!! (unless you're webcamming).

I think it is kind of hit-and-miss. Some sites like yahoo personals are not a good idea; there are so many young people on there looking for a good time. I have 2 friends who have had successful relationships (one is getting married next summer) with men they met on eharmony.com. This site makes you get to know the person well before you meet. Supposedly, it is expensive but both of them say it was worth it. I think match.com is somewhere in the middle (lots of kids, but some older as well)
The best advice I can say in general is not to appear desparate to settle down too soon! You should find out if the guy is looking for a relationship but don't force it too early. Also, I would talk to the person online for a while, then on the phone, before deciding to meet in person. When you do meet, take a friend or couple with you for a double date! Good luck!

With a busy life and so little freetime is this the only way to meet someone? I'm sick of bars and social clubs. What is the key to meeting someone right in this day and age of technology and the fact everyones so damn busy? I'm sorry, but the bars are usually where single people look. Have you been to Woos for the music? That has a nice crowd. And volleyball teams in the summer is where a lot of newly divorced people hang. College kids do Water Street. The Joint is Eau Claire's only "Bohemian" bar. Nature clubs like the Sierra Club and the canoe club are active, but everyone in them is usually hooked up or maybe too old for you? But those people are nice and really smart.

I asked a man I had been talking with online to meet in person. He became offended that I had asked him and became verbally degrading (saying I was pushy for asking and then calling me high maintenance??? when he hardly knew me).
