Hi folks!
I've been playing around with online dating a couple of months now (with changing success, I admit :)
During this time, I played with different kind of profiles... all were true and about myself, but some were funny ones, some written poetry, some had no content at all ("what do you want to know? ask me."), and some of plain, true-sincere-candid content.
From the number of answers/messages I got, it seemed the content in the profile did play no role at all.
So the question is: what kind of information do you look for in an online singles profile? Is there a style you prefer? What are absolut no-no's? What are your experiences?
What type of profile makes you (the women) proactively approach the man?
I'm curious about your answers :)
Online dating: what kind of information do you look for in a profile?
Well, this is a hard question, but I am up for the challenge. I started trying the internet dating in April. I wrote my profile but I did not experiment with altering it like you did. I should have tried that to find out what was the most effective. That's a good idea.
Anyway, I used the yahoo personals and put in my predetermined search. Then the site would show me my matches. As I scroll, I would say that the photo, and the headliner where both pretty important as to which profile I decided to check out. Then once I did pick one, I went straight for the section where they wrote about themselves. Then lastly, I check out the standard questions, employeed, children, education, ect.
Photo... I like to see a current photo that is not a studio shot. I want to see him smiling and having fun. But not with another woman it the photo. Something kinda close so I can see his face.
The other thing is the headliner. And that is an ify one. It needs to match with the photo he uses. He needs to be sure he is not screaming horney, loney or bored. He has to get my attention enough to get inside his profile. I think men need to remeber that woman are looking at these. Too many guys put NASCAR fan, fisherman, workaholic, these things makes me think 'oh, he's not gonna have time for me'. Something that says 'I want to spoil my woman' without saying nerd alert. At the same time, for me personally, I like men who are shy and it is hard to describe that in a headliner.
You know, I almost just wrote a book and did not even really answer your question. Maybe you'll get some creative stuff back.
Just out of curiousity, how many people have you met in person that was from an internet connection? Weather it worked out is not revelant.
